Job purpose
Execute the activities for Infrastructure (data backup administration & Storage, data center and disaster recovery, identity Access management, virtualization) under delegated authority from Manager Infrastructure, acting as owner of data infrastructure related processes , by (1) Establishing and executing the plan, directing and controlling all the activities related to infrastructure administration, and (2) Executing and controlling all the activities related to Infrastructure ; in order to support ICT OQ8 to ensure the continuity and efficiency of the business.
The position will act in accordance with the OQ8’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives
Main tasks and responsibilities
Back Up:
  • Build, maintain and administer storage and backup systems based on requirements as defined by customer needs. Ensure all managed systems are up-to-date and conform to the latest security standards. Work with system owners to help develop backup and recovery plans that suit specific needs of the related project.
  • Assist in fulfilling requests related to storage area creations, quota management and data restoration. Perform routine maintenance, including tape drive additions to various libraries, off-site tape management, disk replacements, etc.
  • Maintain an appropriate disaster recovery plan for storage and backup systems. Create and maintain end-user and Sys Admin documentation for all storage and backup systems.
  • Assist in maintaining Linux configuration management policies, following standard security guidelines, such as CIS Benchmarks. Provide support related to Linux related issues and requests (e.g. Linux clustering maintenance, driver/software support, NFS mounting, LDAP/DHCP, etc.)
  • Remain abreast to new and emerging technologies. Work with management to establish direction. Other duties as assigned
Storage:

Data Center:
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all colocation data center facilities systems.
  • Scheduling and managing preventative maintenance of data center equipment.
  • Use best practices to establish data center operations based on tier II and tier III standards.
  • Perform daily inspections of equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain proper record of work operations, logs, and events to provide detailed reporting to management.
  • Create and provide training of data center processes and procedures.
  • Perform system administration tasks to keep facilities equipment up to date.
  • Routine backups of critical facilities equipment and devices.
  • Develop and maintain standards, policies, and procedures for systems, security, emergency and disaster.
  • Oversee running of structured cabling during installation of new equipment.
  • Repair of damaged or faulty facilities equipment.
  • Asset management for data center hardware, software, and equipment.
  • Continuous monitoring of equipment for proper operation.
  • Knowledge and configuration of networking/server equipment, low voltage cabling, power distribution, and systems troubleshooting.
  • Perform scheduled equipment testing.
  • Work with new and existing customers for access, installation, and Smart Hands needs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally in all forms of communication with internal and external customers.
  • Adhere to IT/DX Policies, guidelines and compliance requirement.
Disaster Recovery:

Identity Access Management
  • Responsible for resolving a wide variety of complex system failures, troubleshooting software, hardware, and network problems, and monitoring and addressing Service Center trouble tickets and ISR’s as required
  • Perform daily system monitoring and maintenance, data backup and restoration, data processing utilities, shell scripting, batch processing, security log audits, creation and deployment of server and workstation images;
  • Maintain system security, troubleshoots system and software problems
  • Investigate, analyze, correct and test software related issues;
  • Develop, compile, test and deploy custom scripting to user specifications for problem resolution
  • Update software procedures to validate the software requirements specs; application problem resolution
  • Assist in hardware/software integration; investigate vendor vulnerability updates and patches and create/modify scripting to assure system configuration compatibilities
  • Administer standalone and network installation, file system management, backups, process control, user administration, and device management
  • Configure Windows OS to allow interaction between networks. Provide DNS, Active Directory and LDAP configuration. Configure hardware and software for servers, RAIDs, storage arrays, and library storage devices
  • Provide O&M functions such as hard drive removal, print server configuration, performance optimization, and research and installation of current patches, where applicable install and support printers and storage peripherals
  • Establish new user accounts, assigns privileges
  • Manage group shares and home directories
  • Participate in technical exchanges
  • Ensure compliance with computer security policy
  • Establish and updates procedures and documentation
  • Maintain current technical competencies to recommend appropriate system upgrades.
Virtualization Administration :
  • Defines and analyzes architecture to establish operating conditions, conducts tests, defines and analyzes engineering proposals, and related technical data to determine the feasibility of developing new capabilities and/or modifying existing capabilities.
  • Virtualization administration responsible for configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and overall support of multiple VMware and Hyper-V environments
  • Setup, install, configure, and troubleshoot ESXi Hosts (Rack Mount and Blade Servers).
  • Maintain and restore VM backups and snapshots
  • Meet compliance for Information Security Vulnerability Management.
  • Perform Systems Lifecycle management for all equipment, including planning, implementation, maintenance, upgrades, consolidation, and decommissioning of enterprise hardware, and software
  • Detects, isolates, documents, reports, and resolves system outages or problems encountered during operations of the operational baseline, which includes collecting diagnostic data, restore the system operation, developing workarounds, and other activities necessary for the recovery of a system
  • Performs system monitoring, analyzing, documenting performance, and conducting trend analysis as required
  • Manage system requirements and derived requirements to ensure the system is compatible with defined architecture and meets customer needs.
  • Develop technical documentation, including SOPs, user guides, test plans, disaster recovery, failover, and other CDRL items
  • Participate in an On-Call coverage for after hours and weekends support
System Administration

  • Experience administering Commvault Backup, or a related enterprise backup solution, and utilizing it to backup various Windows/Linux servers, databases and Hyper-V virtual machines.
  • Experience working with enterprise grade Storage Area Network devices, Netapp, HP, Hitachi and Dell platforms.
  • Must be proficient in writing technical documentation.
